The Global Institute for Mathematical Sciences focuses on Project-Based Learning (PBL) programs both for advanced (High School) students as well as for younger students (in middle school). GIMS has two levels of research experience within early education depending on the needs and ambitions of the student. Find out more below, and follow the PBL tab to see the kinds of projects that GIMS mentors have explored with high school students in the past.
Immerse yourself in a research project that will last one month, involve online meetings with your mentor and close supervision. The program will be tailored to each students' need.
Have you ever wondered how to make a pop-up card that has a circuit that lights up when opening?
Did you ever want to make lights that work within your lego sets?
Have you ever wondered which properties regular polygons share, and how they appear within nature?
Did you know the coast of England is a perfect example of a fractal within a surface?
Thurgh this program, students will be offered many different directions of research, and they will be guided through their project with simple and clear instructions which will alow them to naturally learn the topic involved.
Do like the projects offerd in our Research experience, but are worried about the supplies you need for such project? You can choose this premium experience and once your project is chosen, we will deliver all the needed materials for the student to have in hand anything they may need! This experience includes:
All the services of the Research Experience
All materials needed for the project
A special personalized lecture by a PhD expert from a top 10 university in the field of the topic.
The application has two stages:
Stage 1: Apply using the links above.
Stage 2: Invitation to complete an assessment of mathematical ability to select the project level.
Successful students should anticipate to begin the program around September 1st 2023, or the earliest thereafter. However, we also have a rolling review of applicants and shorter programs might start during later months, subject to space restrictions and mentor availability.
We have a dynamic pricing model that takes into account factors such as project length, complexity, mentor availability, and student needs. Fees for early education programs will fall between $1,000-$5,000 for the full program, involving weekly or fortnightly mentor meetings in our standard or premium programs, the exact amount to be stipulated in the offer letters based on student's particular program needs. If you have potential external funding sources and would like to explore partnerships, do reach out to us via the contact form above.
