Welcome to the Global Institute for Mathematical Sciences (GIMS). Our institute was founded in 2023 by Dr. James Unwin and Dr. Laura Schaposnik, distinguished Oxford alumni and US faculty who share a passion for education and a commitment to advancing the field of mathematics and sciences.

At GIMS, we believe that Project-Based Learning (PBL) is the key to unlocking students' full potential and aiding their preparation for college applications. Our PBL programs provide high school and college students from around the world with the opportunity to engage in hands-on projects that challenge them to apply their knowledge and skills in creative ways.

Dr. Laura Schaposnik
Dr. Laura Schaposnik
Dr. Schaposnik obtained her PhD from the University of Oxford. Her research spans topics in geometry, biophysics, graph theory, epidemiology and machine learning. She has received numerous awards for her work including from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the Simons Foundation. Her high school mentees have won many prizes, including Top-3 in the National Siemens Competition.
Dr. James Unwin
Dr. James Unwin
Dr. Unwin received his PhD from the University of Oxford and has published on cosmology, astrophysics, economics, particle physics, geography, and politics. His work has been highlighted in 100's of media outlets including New Scientist and New York Times. His high school mentees include three finalists in the Top-10 of Regeneron STS and a Yau Gold Medalist.
